Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri Partners with Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce to Bring Entrepreneurship Program to Youth
June 17, 2021--Joplin, MO -- Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri kicks off its youth entrepreneurship program Friday, June 18th.
Career START is an eight-week entrepreneurship program that allows fifth and sixth graders to focus efforts on career exploration and work readiness. Career START features weekly themed sessions and guest speakers who are local entrepreneurs. Career START is made possible through the Building Business/Community Partnership for Afterschool Success grant.
"We are committed to the development and implementation of best practices, early detection tools, and research-based interventions as they pertain to supporting youth who are often not experiencing consistent and meaningful educational opportunities involving career awareness, post-secondary options, or entrepreneurship," says Rhonda Gorham, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Missouri.
Boys & Girls Club has a long-standing relationship with the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce. As such, the Boys & Girls Club is pleased to offer support for this project and commits to collaborating on this project by providing staff resources to participate in lessons from the Venture Lab curriculum, so that goals and objectives of this initiative can be entrenched in our community; actively engage family members and youth to give them information on the importance of their involvement and to make sure they are aware of the opportunities to network with other family members and youth both formally and informally; and, implement necessary system changes that pertain to realizing the goals and objectives of this grant, thus, improving the lives of youth and their families affected by or at risk of not experiencing consistent and meaningful educational opportunities involving career awareness, post secondary options, or entrepreneurship.
