To honor the memory of Dustin James Denney on the first anniversary of his death, please join his families in establishing a memorial fund to celebrate his life and perpetuate his legacy.
Mission: The Dustin Denney Memorial Fund will provide opportunities to youth in Southwest Missouri that will improve their chances to succeed in life. Opportunities including education, career, sports, fitness and recreation will build necessary skills to be productive members of society.
Dustin was afforded many opportunities in life, but struggled with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and substance abuse. These problems impaired his ability to succeed at school and in the workplace. Dustin died without realizing his potential and our hopes and dreams for him died too. It is our hope that youth in our community realize their potential through the Dustin Denney Memorial Fund supporting youth programs such as those offered at the Boys & Girls Club.
The Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri provides services for many youth, some like Dustin, who struggle with a variety of problems and challenges. Through the summer and after school programs, children and youth are provided a safe, nurturing and caring environment. Club programs encompass five core areas including: Character & Leadership, Education & Career, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness and Recreation. Youth learn necessary life skills that will help them be successful in their personal lives, school, work and communities.
The Dustin Denney Memorial Fund will provide scholarships for the following:
The Youth of the Year Award will provide a deserving youth with a $ 1,000 scholarship to be used for college, trade or technical school. The Youth of the Year is selected through an established process developed by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). Although the Youth of the Year was established in 1947 by the BGCA, this fund will allow the Club in Southwest Missouri to consistently offer the award.
Summer program scholarships will provide youth with enrollment fees. The summer session runs for 10 weeks and costs approximately $270 per child. During the summer session, Club members will receive breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack; field trips; recreational opportunities; and educational enrichment.
The Dustin Denney Memorial Fund will also provide support for the following:
Meth Smart addresses the specific dangers of methamphetamine use. The goal is to educate Club kids about the dangers of methamphetamine, how to say no, and introduce alternatives to substance use.
