Founded in 1957, the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri has been serving the Joplin community for over 52 years. We provide a safe, nurturing and caring environment for youth ages 6-18 through after school and summer programs. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Our members often spend more time in our facilities than in their own homes. For this reason we strive to offer every opportunity for character and leadership development, job readiness, and life-enriching programs.

All members receive help completing homework, access to a fully-equipped computer lab, gym and recreation time, and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with professional staff and other Club members. We offer programs in the five core areas of: Character & Leadership, Education & Career, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.

Each of our members participates in drug and alcohol prevention programs that help them realize their worth and potential in life. The Club also provides an evening meal throughout the school year, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack throughout the summer program – all at no additional cost! We strive to keep our programming affordable so that it may be accessible to all youth. Our after-school membership costs $25 per semester or $50 for the entire school year! Our summer program costs $270.00 for nine weeks packed full of recreation, fun and field trips (this includes all meals and any field trip expenses). It is our policy that no youth will be turned away for financial reasons. Payment plans and scholarships are available upon request.

Our Mission

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Joplin is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as caring, responsible and productive citizens. Our programs are designed to improve and enhance the quality of life through the collaboration of professional staff, trained volunteers, family members and community leaders.  With emphasis on all youth, our goal-oriented programs, provided in safe neighborhood facilities, will assist youth in gaining the self-esteem and self-reliance necessary to fulfill their potential and ultimately enhance their community.

Our History

In February of 1957, the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri was officially incorporated and made its start. The then Boys’ Club acquired its current home in 1957, after the city closed the children’s orphanage which had been operating on the property. While the paint color and building structure may have changed over the years, the most important changes have been in the lives of the youth that have attended the Club over the years. In 2007, the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri celebrated its 50th year of service to the Joplin and surrounding communities. Rooted in a rich history of service to children and families, the Club has demonstrated sustainability over its decades of operation. With thousands of children benefiting from our services, the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri has a bright and lasting future ahead of it.
